Honeynet Project - Costa Rica

The Honeynet Project, Costa Rican chapter is an non-profit organization involved in information security research. It is part of a major world-wide organization The Honeynet Project. Its main objectives are:

  1. Analyze the tactics and motives used by the black-hat community to compromise organization's security
  2. Provide online resources to improve knowledge about standards and protocols used on the Internet

The project begun on September, 2006, when Costa Rica's main ISPs were improving the offering for ADSL and Cable Modem broadband connections. The adoption rate is increasing rapidly, companies and individual users are becoming targets for attacks and many of them are getting dedicated public IPs which makes them even more vulnerable.

The Costa Rican Chapter tries to analyze tactics and motives used by the black-hat community in order to compromise the security of the organizations, and share the gathered information and the lessons learned.
